Lessons from abroad for health reform in the U.S.

March 9, 2009
8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Washington, DC

Featuring speakers from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Canada and Switzerland

Health reform is at the top of the agenda for the new administration and Congress. President Obama promised during his campaign to expand coverage so that all Americans have access to health insurance and to lower costs by ensuring only the most cost-effective medical technologies are used.

Many of the reforms proposed by
President Obama and congressional leaders appear to be inspired by European health care systems, which are believed by many Americans to combine universal access, high quality, and low costs.

But what is the reality of health care in Europe and other countries? And what can the U
.S. learn about European attempts to use government-sponsored "comparative effectiveness" criteria to determine which drugs and other treatments are reimbursed in public health systems?

Please join the Galen Institute and International Policy Network for this important conference, which
offers a preview of the potential impact in the U.S. of policies already in place abroad.

Attendance is free, but you must RSVP to reserve your place.

Continental breakfast and lunch will be served
